Grand Prix Dressage

Dressage is a French term simply meaning "training", and was developed by the French cavalry in the 17th century in order to maintain an advantage in combat. Modern dressage still echoes its origins: today's skilled riders are able to train a horse to respond to minimal movements and prompts in order to perform complex routines. During the 17th and 18th centuries dressage was became a popular discipline among the European aristocracy, and in the 20th century it became the competitive sport it is today.

Grand Prix dressage is the elite level of dressage, and as such, very few trainers experienced at Grand Prix level are working in Australia. Anne Smith is one of a handful of breeder/trainers with Grand Prix dressage experience at the highest level.

Due to Anne's specialist experience and knowledge, she opts to focus on coaching advanced riders with the talent and passion to perform at an elite level. Anne trained in Europe with Jean Bemelmans, widely known as one of the world's leading trainers.
