Anne riding Carillo: Australia National Championships 1996

About Us

Anne Smith began riding in the mid 1950s and has since gone on to receive some of the highest accolades and qualifications in the equestrian field.

Anne's love of horses was formalized when she joined the North Eastern Pony Club (Victoria) in 1960. Soon after her introduction to the world of competitive riding, Anne went on to participate in ODEs (one day events); compete in numerous Royal Shows, and in junior and senior levels in the Australian Show-jumping Championships. It was also the beginning of a budding career in dressage.

From 1995 to 1999 Anne competed in various Australian Grand Prix dressage competitions on her mount, Carillo, and in early 1997 her official world ranking reached 81.

Throughout 1997 and 1998 Anne trained in Germany under the tutelage of esteemed German rider, Jean Bemelmans. Her two years in Germany saw Anne compete in Grand Prix with Solo 11, as well as a number of Concours de Dressage International in Austria, Germany, Holland, Belgium and France.

It is this international experience and coal-face knowledge that Anne brings to her students, and to the Sunbury Lodge breeding program.
